Description

Choquequirao is an Inca city that is 3,050 meters above sea level in the Cusco region of the province of La Convencion. The site has a structure and architecture very similar to the city of Kuelap of the Prechaca Chachapoyas culture, it is believed that when Pachacutec and his son Tupac Inca Yupanqui expanded the empire to the north they conquered a civilization and moved them to Choquequirao to have better control of the population, why it was a warrior town that was difficult to annex to the Inca empire. It has different areas such as: The agricultural terraces, the ceremonial sector, the house of the astronomer, the house of the Inca, etc. All these affected in different points of the mountain that makes it more interesting to walk and move this impressive place with the most spectacular views.

What Hide Choquequirao?

Choquequirao is believed to have been a city built with the purpose of controlling the invasion of its neighbors by the Chanka tribe at the beginning of the formation of the Inca empire in approximately 1380. Following the invasion of Francisco Pizarro and his army in 1535, death From Atahuallpa (Inca king) in Cajamarca, Manco Inca emerged as the new king of the empire after a bloody struggle in the current city of Cusco for the rule of the empire, the Inca army was defeated by the conquering army led by Francisco Pizarro. Then the family, army and survivors escaped into the jungle finding a refuge in this inhospitable place “Choquequirao-Vilcabamba”.
Manco Inca and his children resisted for 60 years, frustrating each conquering excursion. In 1565 with the death of Manco Inca at the hands of soldiers of the Almagrista faction, the resistance lost its leader and culminated years later with the capture and execution in the current main square of the last heir of the Inca dynasty “Tupac Amaru “So I finish a part of the history in these places that you can relive walking through these wonderful places .
