Details Choquequirao Trek 5 Days

Day 1: CUSCO – CAPULIYOC – CHIQUISCA – SANTA ROSA.
We begin this adventure by picking up passengers between 3:30 and 4:00 a.m. from their hotels, then traveling for four hours through several villages.
Capuliyoc will be our breakfast stop and also the end point of our journey by vehicle, after which we will begin our hike. We will arrive at the viewpoint where we can appreciate the Vilcabamba mountain range with its impressive glaciers, the Apurímac River with its canyon, and its incredible panorama.
For the first two and a half hours, we will descend along a zigzag path to the village of Chiquisca at an altitude of 1,800 meters, where we will have a traditional lunch. We will then continue descending for another 50 minutes until we reach the Playa Rosalina bridge at an altitude of 1,500 meters, the lowest point.
After crossing the bridge, we will begin the 3-hour ascent to Santa Rosa, the location of our first camp.

Time: 11 hours of descent approximately.
Meals: Lunch, dinner.
Minimum altitude: 1,500 meters above sea level, Rosalina Beach.
Maximum altitude: 3,000 meters above sea level, Choquequirao Camp.
Distance traveled: 11 km from Capuliyoc – Santa Rosa

Day 2: SANTA ROSA-MARAMPATA-CHOQUEQUIRAO.

After breakfast, we will continue our journey to the citadel of Choquequirao. We will begin the ascent along a narrow path full of vegetation and impressive mountain views. After a 3-hour hike to Marampata, located at an altitude of 3000 meters, we will rest while enjoying the view that this beautiful place offers once again. Then we will walk for 2 more hours to the camping area for our second night.

Maximum altitude: 3,000 meters above sea level, Choquequirao Camp.

Day 3: CHOQUEQUIRAO

In the morning, our guide will take you through the agricultural terraces and waterfall. We will visit each of the archaeological sectors, explaining the history and importance of the site, then return to camp for a delicious lunch prepared by our chef. After lunch, we will visit the restored llama terraces about 300 meters (1,000 feet) below the main structures, such as the Inca’s house, the main temple, and the water temple. In the afternoon, we will begin the return hike, visiting the priest’s house and the platform for sacrifices and rituals, hoping to see the condors again as they return to their homes.x

Day 4: CHOQUEQUIRAO – MARAMPATA – CHIQUISCA

After breakfast, we will begin our return journey, which will be much easier and more peaceful, first arriving at Marampata and then beginning the descent to Santa Rosa, where we will have lunch. We will then reach the banks of the Apurímac River at an altitude of 1,500 meters. We will then continue walking for two hours until we reach Chiquisca at an altitude of 1,800 meters, where we will set up our last camp for the night.

Accommodation: Camp in Chiquisca
Climate: Warm.
Distance traveled: Approximately 12 km
Walking time: 8 hours (approximately)

Day 5: CHIQUISCA – CAPULIYOC – SAYWITE – CUSCO.
We will start our day early with the climb to the Capuliyoc pass at an altitude of 2,800 meters, from where we will be able to appreciate the great Apurimac Canyon once again and say goodbye to Choquequirao. After a well-deserved rest and a light lunch, we will say goodbye to the muleteers and begin our return trip by minivan to Cusco. On the way, we will visit another archaeological site called Saywite for about an hour, then continue the trip to Cusco, arriving in the afternoon.
