BREAKFAST AND LUNCH

Day 1: CUSCO – CACHORA – CAPULIYOC – CHIKISKA – SANTA ROSA
We leave Cusco at 4 am in our minivan on a 3-hour trip to the city of Curahuasi where we have breakfast, then we will arrive at Cachora and finally, for 1 more hour, we will arrive at Capuliyoc, located on the edge of the Apurimac canyon, surrounded of impressive snowy peaks, here we will meet our muleteers and cooks. Then we will begin the descent for 3 hours until we reach the village of Chiquisca where we will have lunch. Then we continue our walk for 1 hour downhill to Rosalina Beach, where we will make a short stop and cross the bridge over the Apurimac River. Then we will continue our tour to Choquequirao with an ascent for 2 more hours until we reach the village of Santa Rosa, where we will spend the first night of our trip to Choquequirao and Machu Picchu.

  • Time: 4 hours of descent and 2 hours of ascent approximately.
  • Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
  • Camp: Choquequirao 3100 masl.
  • Minimum altitude 2020 masl Santa Rosa.
  • Maximum altitude: 3100 meters above sea level around Choquequirao.

Day 2: SANTA ROSA – MARAMPATA – CHOQUEQUIRAO
After our Andean breakfast, we begin the 3-hour ascent along a narrow and zigzag path where we can appreciate the diversity of the flora until we reach Marampata, where we can rest, there we will have our first view of the Archaeological Complex of Choquequirao. Then we will continue walking for 1 hour and a half more until we reach the camping area very close to the archaeological zone of Choquequirao. We will have lunch and in the afternoon our guide will take you through different sectors such as the Inka house, the llama sector, the terraces, the temples, the urban area and you will enjoy the wonderful views of the Apurimac canyon at sunset, here it is also possible to see condors flying over the mountains. We will camp near Choquequirao where it will be our second night.

  • Time: approximately 9 hours of ascent.

  • Camp: Choquequirao 3100 masl.
  • Minimum altitude 2020 masl Santa Rosa.
  • Maximum altitude: 3100 meters above sea level around Choquequirao.
  • Distance traveled: 14km from Playa Rosalina – Choquequirao.
  • Climate: Temperate, Hot.

Day 3: CHOQUEQUIRAO – WHITE RIVER – MAIZAL
After our breakfast, we will start the ascent towards the Choquequirao pass (3170 masl), where we will have an incredible view from the top and we will say goodbye to the city of Choquequirao and then we will descend through the recently discovered terraces of Pincha Unuyoc, we will continue our descent towards the Blanco River (1900 masl), where we will enjoy a snack and a refreshing break immersing ourselves in the crystal clear waters of the river, then we will ascend until we reach the Maizal camp, small and beautifully located, at an altitude of 3000 masl. This day is probably the most difficult of the trip, but if you have prepared well and are determined, you will succeed.

  • Time: 7 to 8 hours of walking.
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.
  • Camp: Cornfield 3000 masl.
  • Minimum altitude: 1900 masl Rio Blanco.
  • Maximum altitude: 3150 masl Choquequirao pass.
  • Distance traveled: 18 km Paso Choquequirao – Maizal.
  • Climate: Mild and cold at night.

Day 4: MAIZAL – YANAMA
After a refreshing breakfast, we will leave the Maizal campsite behind and make a final ascent through the old silver mines of La Victoria until we reach the San Juan pass (4150 masl). At this point, we will have a short break to appreciate the spectacular views of the Cordillera Vilcabamba and we will be able to taste our snack. Then we will continue along a charming road to the town of Yanama, where we will enjoy our lunch and then we will rest all afternoon.

  • Time: 5 hours of walking.
  • Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
  • Camp: Yanama.
  • Minimum altitude: 3000 Cornfield.
  • Maximum altitude: 4150 masl San Juan.
  • Distance traveled: 10km Maizal – Yanama.
  • Climate: Mild and cold at night.

Day 5: YANAMA – TOTORA – COLLPAMPA
After breakfast, early in the morning, we will say goodbye to the muleteers and then we will begin to ascend. On the way, we will pass by Mariano Llamocca, the highest point of the trek (4643 masl), from where you can see the second-highest mountain in Cusco, the Salkantay.
Finally, we will begin to descend enjoying the beautiful view to reaching the town of Totora, where we will be able to taste our snacks, and then we will continue the way to Collpampa.

  • Meals: Breakfast – Snacks – Dinner
  • Camp: Collpampa.
  • Minimum altitude: Yanama.
  • Maximum altitude: 4643 masl Mariano Llamocca.
  • Distance traveled: 15 km Yanama – Collpampa.
  • Cold weather.

Day 6: COLLPAMPA – BEACH – SANTA TERESA
Today is the shortest section of our entire excursion. We will begin a descent arriving at one of the waterfalls that descend from the mountain, we will also enjoy the diversity of fruits, then we will walk through some plantations of tea, coffee, and after passing from beautiful places we will arrive at our camp in Santa Teresa in the middle of the noon where we will enjoy our lunch and we will have a free afternoon to relax overlooking the landscapes of such a wonderful place.
Note: If you want to practice adventure sports such as zip-lining in Santa Teresa, you can do it in approximately 2 hours, the cost is 30 dollars per person, it is not included in the tour.

Day 7: SANTA TERESA – LLACTAPATA – HYDROELECTRIC – AGUAS CALIENTES
In the morning after our breakfast, we will begin our excursion and we will begin ascending a narrow path to the top of a mountain that will lead us to one of the archaeological groups called Llactapata, in this place, we will see a carved rock that was used for astronomical purposes, in addition From this point, we can see the archaeological complex of Machu Picchu and enjoy the beautiful landscape that surrounds us. Immediately we will begin to descend until we reach Hydroelectric, where we will have our lunch and then we will board the train that will take us to the town of Aguas Calientes where we spend the night.

  • Time: 6 hours of walking and 30 minutes by train.

Day 8: HOT WATERS – MACHU PICCHU
We will wake up very early, to have our breakfast and then we will take the first bus to the Inca city of Machu Picchu, our guide will give you a 2-hour guided tour of the archaeological site, time in which you will visit all the most important areas of the Inca citadel such as the solar clock, the temple of the three windows, the main temple, the house of the Inca, among many attractions. After your tour, you will have free time to explore the site yourself. At the end of the tour of the citadel, we will return by bus to Aguas Calientes, upon arrival we will have our lunch. In the afternoon, you will take the train back to Ollantaytambo station from where you will continue by bus back to Cusco.
Note: The entrance to Machu Picchu will depend on the type of ticket that was reserved, remember that there are three types of entrance tickets to Machu Picchu.
