This is the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu in its short version in which you can visit Inca archaeological zones and learn more about the history of the Inca culture, as well as appreciate the flora and fauna of this place.
Day 1: CUSCO – OLLANTAYTAMBO – WIÑAYHUAYNA – AGUAS CALIENTES
The 2-days Inca Trail begins with pickup from your hotel at 4:00 am and then departs to the train station in Ollantaytambo for approximately 2 and a half hours, where we will take the train that will take us to km 104, the starting point of the short Inca Trail. Before starting we will go through a control booth to check the tickets on the short Inca Trail, from this place we will begin a three-hour walk until we reach the Archaeological site of Wiñaywayna which is located at 2600 meters of altitude, in this place we will take the opportunity to eat and take a short break then we will continue walking until we reach the Inti Punku (Gate of the Sun) from this place we will be able to appreciate the Inca city of Machu Picchu. Then we will descend for 30 minutes until we reach the bus station and board the tourist bus to Aguas Calientes Town (Machu Picchu Pueblo). We will also have time to visit the Aguas Calientes thermal baths, which are located 25 minutes from it. At night you will have dinner and spend the night at the hotel.
Day 2: WAYLLABAMBA- WARMIWAÑUSKA – PACAYMAYO
After breakfast we begin the walk to Machu Picchu, we begin with a steep ascent that extends for 9 km. Throughout this climb, the landscape changes from an inter-Andean valley to the puna (dry and high area with little vegetation) the highest point will be the Abra Warmihuañusca (Pass of the Dead Woman at 4200 meters high), in this place We can see llamas and alpacas grazing, in addition the area is very cloudy and you can see different types of birds such as hummingbirds, sparrows and the Andean bear, also called the spectacled bear. We recommend that on this day especially your backpack is well stocked with sweets, chocolates and coca leaves that will keep your sugar level high and help with altitude sickness since this section is the most complicated of the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, immediately. After the pass, we descend to the Pacaymayo valley at 3600 meters above sea level, where we camp after approximately 7 hours of walking.
