Description

Choquequirao is a new alternative to trekking in the mountains of Cusco and explore this impressive Inca archaeological site. Choquequirao located in the Vilcabamba mountain range in the Apurimac valley near Vilcabamba, last refuge of the wise Quechua (Incas), recently nominated by the travel magazine Lonely Planet as the best tourist destination to visit in 2017.

The Tour Includes:

Informative talk one day before the start of the walk.

    • Entrance to Choquequirao.
    • Pick up from the hotel.
    • Transportation: From Cusco to the start of the hike (Capuliyoc).
    • Transportation: Return of the walk from Choquequirao to Cusco.

    • Personal tents: 2 people in each tent to allow greater comfort and a safekeeping of backpacks. Our tents are 3-season, very well
    • preserved to ensure excellent performance in the field.
    • Camping equipment: dining room and kitchen tents, tables, chairs.
    • Inside the stores: mattress or mattresses.
    • Accommodation: 3 nights in tent (camping).
    • Horses: to take the camping equipment and all your personal luggage (7 kilos).
    • Cook: In charge of preparing all meals throughout the trip.
    • Food: 4 breakfasts, 4 lunches, 3 dinners and snacks.

    • Tea alarm: Every morning at the campsite we will wake up with a cup of coca tea our support staff will bring coca tea for your tent in

    • Tea time: Every afternoon 1 hour before dinner the cooks leave on the dining table popcorn, cookies, coffee, chocolate, different types of teas, hot water, etc. This is because after a day of hiking many are hungry and it is a bit annoying to wait until dinner so we provide tea time.
    • Daily Snacks – Days 1, 2,3 and 4: Our Snacks consist of local fruits, cookies, chocolate, candies we will give this snack at the beginning of each day of walking in a cloth bag to avoid environmental pollution .
    • Security personnel: Our team carry the first aid kit including emergency oxygen bottle

Tips

Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco – Capuliyoc – Santa Rosa

Very early we pick you up at 4 am from your hotel, make sure you bring all your own equipment to the Choquequirao walk. Then we will take our tourist transport 4 hours to go to the town of Cachora where we will have our breakfast, then we continue 1 hour in our transport to Capuliyoc (3000 masl) start of our walk. Here we will meet with all the team to accompany us on the walk (cook and muleteer), from Capuliyoc we will have the first view of the archaeological complex of Choquequirao. We will begin to descend mountain 3 hours by a zigzag path until we reach Rosalina Beach, our lunch point, in the path of the road we will pass through small towns such as Cocamasana and Chiquisca. We will have lunch and then continue our hike uphill 2 hours until we reach Santa Rosa our first camp.

Day 2: Santa Rosa - Marampata - Choquequirao

A full day of adrenaline to ascend to the Inca city of Choquequirao, after an Andean breakfast at 6:00 a.m. we will start our trek up to Marampata (3050 masl). 3 hours of slow mountain climbing. During our tour we will observe the dense vegetation of the humid tropical forest and variety of orchids around the road until we reach Marampata where we will take a short break. After we continue our walk for 1 hour until we reach the archaeological park of Choquequirao, we will visit the different sectors within Choquequirao, such as the flames sector, temples and ceremonial centers. In the afternoon we will continue exploring Choquequirao, our second camp will be in Choquequirao.

Day 3: Choquequirao - Chiquisca

Very early we will have our breakfast, later we will continue visiting the archaeological park of Choquequirao where we will observe the sunrise and the flight of the condors. After exploring and visiting Choquequirao we will start to return to Marampata instead of our lunch where we will take a rest, then we will continue with our 2 hours walk downhill to Rosalina beach and 40 minutes uphill to the Chiquisca farmhouse our third camp.

Day 4: Chiquisca - Capuliyoc - Cusco

On this last day of the walk we will have an exquisite breakfast and then start with the 4 hour hike up the mountain to the Capuliyoc pass, on the way we can appreciate the Apurimac valley canyon. If we are lucky we will observe Andean condors in the high parts of the mountains, in Capuliyoc we will have our last lunch of the walk, then we will take our tourist transport to return to Cusco and leave it in their respective hotel. There ends the service of the walk.
